How To Develop Vertical Explosion For Youth Athletes

Some of the most basic training principles are over looked at the youth age. I get asked often what do I like to focus on. I'm a firm believer in building a strong foundation before applying large volumes of weights or extremely force to an athlete.

Things like developing motor skills and building their sensory awareness. Teaching them how to really control their bodies. So many injuries happen because bad mechanics are being taught.

In the video my goal was to show you things we're adding to Noah's program, working on triple extension, which translates into dunking, jump balls and rebounding. As you can see in the video I gave Noah a bump at his highest point of the rebound to simulate being bumped while grabbing a defensive or offensive rebound. This helps him become aware of his surroundings and to know how to land properly if he gets bumped while in the post.

I could pick this video apart with more things to work on, but this is only the 2nd training session. We'll continue to stay the course to help him become a better athlete.
